Paint Protection Myths

All Paint Protections are much the same

You have most likely found yourself in the situation where upon buying a new vehicle from your local Dealer, you are introduced to the aftercare / accessories salesperson. They proceed to offer you a myriad of options and services for your vehicle, with paint protection being one of them at inflated prices. Some will even offer you a “lifetime” warranty on it, interestingly which is much longer than the warranty on the paint itself. A lifetime really?… if it sounds a bit hard to believe then your right. There is NO paint protection product on the market which will last a lifetime. The most advanced paint protection currently available is a “true” Ceramic coating applied by a Professional Applicator, and a little secret…..you will not find one at your local dealership. The processes involved in professionally applying paint protection is best done by a professional applicator….So when buying your next new vehicle, don’t be fooled by the hype!

Car Cleaning Basics

The Do's and Don'ts of washing your Car Basic Steps

  1. Using premium grade products (PH neutral car shampoo) and materials (quality plush microfiber towels etc) designed for the purpose is the foundation for the best results possible.
  2. Never wash your car in direct sunlight or when it is hot to touch.
  3. Avoiding Cross Contamination
    • Cross-contamination occurs when you use the same cleaning products for every stage of the cleaning process.  Don’t use the same items (towels, brushes, buckets, water, etc.) for multiple areas of the vehicle. Otherwise you will move contaminants from one part of the vehicle to another, This is particularly important to remember when cleaning extra dirty lower areas like wheels, bumpers, and exhausts.
  4. Use the two-buckets-method
    • Use the two-buckets-method means having one bucket for rinsing water, and one for the car shampoo, the rinse bucket provides a safe way of rinsing the dirty wash mit, which in turn helps keep that bucket of soapy shampoo free from contaminants. Change water and soap as required.
  5. Attack the wheels first using a high quality wheel cleaner. Rinse wheels with water and spray on a high quality cleaner and let soak, then blast off with water.
  6. Then start at the top of the vehicle working your way downwards, with the dirtier lower parts of the vehicle last on the list. Now a detailed wheel clean with a good quality dedicated wheel brush and wheel cleaner.

Frequently asked questions

HOW DANGEROUS IS BIRD POO TO MY VEHICLES PAINTWORK?

Short Answer: VERY!

Bird excrement. Bird poo. Will do real damage to your car if left on your paintwork. Bird droppings contain Uric Acid – a chemical that is corrosive enough to quickly eat through a coating of wax or polish and eventually if left long enough, even a paint sealant or ceramic coating and it will begin to etch paint.

Why?…Unlike mammals, birds have no bladder – they don’t store liquid waste separately from solid waste. All of their waste is mixed together in an organ called the cloaca. Solid waste from the intestines is mixed with concentrated uric acid from the kidneys and everything is eliminated together. Uric acid crystals add the white coloring to the waste matter. The uric acid levels in bird droppings is relatively high; reaching pH levels of somewhere between 3 to 4.5 – quite acidic.

PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE….

Toughseal Paint Protection helps minimise the effects of bird poo on your paintwork by adding a protective layer on top of the clear coat on your vehicle. Toughseal gives you more time and makes it easier to clean it off before any damage is done to your paintwork. That said, bird poo should be removed as soon as practical, as it will eventually eat through everything!

HOW DOES TOUGHSEAL STEP 1 & 2 PAINT PROTECTION WORK?

When paint cures, entrapped solvents evaporate from the base layer up through the paint. When this occurs sediment is left in the paint’s pores. All painted surfaces are exposed to a certain amount of sulphuric and nitric acids from the atmosphere. These cling to the paint in the forms of oxides. Toughseal’s scientifically developed Pre-Treatment Step 1 enters the pores of the painted surface and effectively removes all foreign impurities. This now allows Toughseal’s Acrylic plus P.T.F.E. Sealant Step 2 to bond chemically to the pores of the paintwork to seal and protect the now highly polished surface. As the treated surface cures, the P.T.F.E molecules elongate, interlocking with each other, resulting in tough bonded protective coating to the paint.
